Grattan Brown
Director of Mission and Ministry
Dr. Grattan Brown oversees the implementation of pastoral and evangelization programming at the Shrine.
Like that of many American Catholics, Dr. Brown’s understanding of Catholic faith and the Church have been powerfully shaped by the witness and teaching of St. John Paul II. Dr. Brown brings 20+ years of teaching, research, and publication that includes St. John Paul II’s moral theology and spirituality, medical and business ethics, and liberal arts and Catholic education. He also brings institutional and program development experience gained from leadership roles at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Belmont Abbey College, and Bishop Ireton High School and at Thales College, which he helped launch in 2022 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Dr. Brown holds graduate degrees in English and Theology, earning the S.T.D. in Theology at the Alfonsian Academy, Lateran University in Rome.
Dr. Brown is a member of the Knights Of Columbus and lives with his wife and three daughters in Fairfax, Virginia.
